The monsoon has arrived

Yes, it seems that the rains have finally reached Chennai. That was the only reason I woke up this early to write – the weather. It is raining, the sky is gray, and it is the perfect time to play Dido’s song Thank You. Shit, I realized that it IS the perfect song to play for reasons unknown to most.

The one place I would love to be right now is at my home. I remember waking up on wet lazy Sunday mornings, my mother making me a hot cup of tea with fresh khaman, fafda and jalebi, and I reading the crisp newspaper or just lazily browsing the TV channels. The filling morning breakfast, the yummilicious traditional gujju lunch and a long siesta in the afternoon. Sometimes I used to eagerly wait for the evening F1 race. Contrast those days with now.Now I’m stuck here in a dirty 6 x 12 hostel room with monkeys as the only visitors. There, I spoiled the whole mood I built up. Oh well.

Somehow I love the Chennai rain more than Mumbai or Vapi rain. The rain in Mumbai pelts you with big droplets and soaks you completely. Then God laughs out loud through noisy peals of thunder and as the old joke goes, he takes a picture with a flash of lightning. The Chennai rain is different. It gently kisses you before floating to the ground. The Chennai rain is perfect to walk in with your girlfriend hand in hand, under one umbrella. Someday I will too.
